Types of Waves

Transverse Waves
A Transverse wave is a moving wave that consists of right angled oscillations to the direction of the energy transfer.

Longitudinal Waves
Longitudinal waves that have the same direction of vibration as their direction of travel.

Mechanical Waves
A mechanical wave is a wave that is not able to transmit its energy through a vacuum. A mechanical wave is a good example of a sound wave.

Electromagnetic Waves
An electromagnetic wave is a wave that is capable of transmitting its energy through a empty space. Electromagnetic waves are produced by the vibration of charged particles.
